In the form of 2 disc David Bowie will be getting the tribute treatment compilation to be released during the beginning of this upcoming fall. The release will be called We Were So Turned On and will hold thirty three Bowie covers between its sleeves from various sources. Many a strange band has come out of the woodwork for this project, including Duran Duran. John Fruscanti and more than thirty other Bowie inspired groups and artists. MGMT, along with Soulwax, was supposed to make an appearance on the album but as Ultimate Guitar News reports, scheduling and recording have interfered in the band's name gracing the album. The compilation is due out on September 6, and all of the profits made from the album will be going directly to the charity Warchild, which is described on the charity:"A small international charity that protects children living in the world's most dangerous war zones"

David Bowie has announced the re-release of his classic 1976 album Station to Station. The reissue will come out in both 3-CD and 5-CD versions,on September 20 scheduled to hit stores. Along with the original album, the new sets will include two discs worth of live material taken from a previously unreleased performance at Nassau Coliseum in 1976. It will also feature a 16 page booklet and three postcards. The deluxe edition will include the 1985 CD master of the album, along with a five track EP of single edits. David Bowie to Release Deluxe Station to Station Reissue This Fall.

We haven’t heard much from David Bowie in current years. Since his last record, 2003’s Reality, the iconic Brit has given us a handful of compilations and reissues, and this September, he’ll offer his latest in the form of a new, special edition version of his 1976 album Station to Station. The album, which is set to include a number of juicy bonuses, in three versions will come. The first is a three CD set, with the original album accompanied by Bowie’s oft bootlegged show Live Nassau Coliseum '76, which spans across the latter two discs. The second is a five CD collection that will include the above, plus an un tracklisted five song CD of singles versions of some of the album tracks, and a 5.1 Surround Sound DVD of the original album. A final version of the album will be issued on deluxe vinyl, and will include, like the five CD version, an essay on the album by Cameron Crowe, postcards featuring never before seen footages of Bowie constructing the album, a replica backstage pass, a replica biography and lots more fan club related activity. All three versions are set to drop September 20 in the UK via EMI. No North American release date for the reissue has been announced.

"I'm not thinking of touring," he said in a New York Times profile of his supermodel wife, Iman. "I'm comfortable."Bowie, who is ranked as the number 39 artist among Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Rock Artists of All Time, has not released any new material in seven years. Bowie's son Duncan Jones has made a name for himself, though, while his father has taken it easy. Duncan rose to prominence as one of the U.K.'s top independent film directors with his 2009 release Moon. The film won best work by new director at the 2010 British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards.

BBC 6 Music may be revived under a different name, figures within the corporation suggested yesterday, after a high-profile campaign involving stars such as Lily Allen and David Bowie prompted a rethink on its closure.

Sources suggest it may be re-branded as Radio 2 Extra, keeping several of its current DJs, and much of the same playlist it does now. A BBC spokeman described the idea as "speculation".
The station currently costs £6m a year to run and has a weekly audience of 695,000. When BBC director-general Mark Thompson confirmed last month that a proposal to close the station had been presented to the BBC Trust as part of a bid to scale back BBC operations and allow commercial rivals more room, it was pointed out that only one in five people had heard of the station.

However, a campaign to keep the station open cited its minority status as justification for keeping it running rather than shutting it down. BBC Radio 5 Live presenter Chris Addison was quoted as saying: "6 Music serves a minority interest, does it? Then it's heartland BBC."
Last month 1,000 fans demonstrated outside Broadcasting House. The British Phonographic Industry has also protested at the closure, claiming it will block a much-needed outlet for new bands. The BBC has received 8,000 complaints over the proposed closure of the station. Only the "Sachsgate" scandal, and the decision to air the controversial Jerry Springer: The Opera, have prompted more. Several musicians have also expressed concern over the closure, including Radiohead guitarist Ed O'Brien, producer Mark Ronson and David Bowie. Conservative Shadow Culture Minister Ed Vaizey initially supported the decision, but later changed his position saying: "It is brilliant with a passionate and articulate fan base."

Liam Gallagher has revealed that David Bowie and T.Rex have inspired his new post-Oasis album.

The singer told New York radio station RXP that his new group – featuring former bandmates Andy Bell, Gem Archer and Chris Sharrock – are aiming to head into the studio next month with a view to completing the record in June before releasing it next summer.

"Andy and Gem are on fire at the moment," he enthused. "There's a bit of T.Rex and Bowie on there, I’m telling you there's a good mix of psychedelia but there’s some good rock 'n' roll tunes on there [as well].

"We're going to record halfway through April, we've got three weeks to do some tunes and if it's all cool we'll go back in June and finish it off. I'd like to have a tune out in October and then put another one out after Christmas and then the album in the summer."

Although he has had several public digs at his brother Noel, who also had his first jovial pop at his younger sibling at his second Teenage Cancer Trust gig at the Royal Albert Hall last night (March 26), he did admit that the pair's new material will be "an exciting time for music".

"He'll go and do his thing and we'll go and do our thing and it'll be an exciting time for music not just in England but worldwide," he said.

But he still had the last word adding: "Noel's record will be good, and ours will be better."

The singer said that they still haven't spoken since Noel quit the band last August but he admitted that they "will at some point".

He also revealed that a new Oasis singles collection will be released in the near future, and he criticised the UK music scene.

"There's a few good bands but there's a lot of bands just making fast food music," he said. "It's not digesting well, they're not making albums. You hear a good tune on the radio and go out and buy the album and it's not all that."

Elsewhere in the interview, Liam explained his recent comments about U2 and Coldplay's dress sense, and he joked that they should go out and buy his own clothing range Pretty Green, which he is currently promoting in the US.

"I've met Bono before and he's a geezer, but someone asked me about fashion and you can see a lot of bands are styled like Coldplay.

"You know they don't buy their own clothes and you should, you should buy Pretty Green," he said before adding: "Coldplay are alright but they don’t do it for me that much, they're not rock 'n' roll enough man. They all live around the corner from me so I don’t want to say too much in case they come round and give me a paper cut."

David Bowie has turned Peter Gabriel down flat and will not appear on the followup companion piece to his new album. Out now is Gabriel's latest collection, the covers project Scratch My Back. The album features Gabriel's takes on songs by Bowie, Talking Heads, Paul Simon, Neil Young, Radiohead and others. The followup album is now in production for the artists Gabriel covered to record renditions of songs from his catalogue. Gabriel, who covered Bowie's 1977 classic "Heroes," had hoped that the "Thin White Duke" would be more than happy to reciprocate and cover a Gabriel tune -- but the semi-retired Bowie declined. Gabriel spoke about the situation to The Associated Press, explaining, "Sadly, David Bowie is the only artist that said he clearly didn't want to play with the song swap. I don't think he's doing much music at the moment. But (producer) Brian Eno was a co-writer on the song so it gets around that problem and he's going to do a version of this song, 'Don't Break This Rhythm.' But 'Heroes' is one of those classic songs . . . it's one of my favorite Bowie songs and I was a Bowie fan right from the beginning."
